Everyone was greatly impressed and agreed this conference was the first step in the right direction for court security officers nationwide.
A Message from the International President
The first Annual SPFPA CSO Conference was a great success, and I believe far exceeded the expectations of everyone that was privileged to attend. I want to personally thank all those that assisted and joined us in putting together such a wonderful meeting. Also, special thanks to my staff for their hard work and dedication to making the conference one to remember.
We have much to do together in the future. With the current changes in performance policies and medical standards, it becomes all the more critical that we work together to build our CSO Division. The more voices speaking out as one, the stronger we all are, and the more we can accomplish for you and your families.
The SPFPA is dedicating its full resources to building a strong CSO department and has committed to a "full time" CSO Director once we have reached our goal of increasing both CSO units and members. Until that time, I am pleased to report that I am appointing two CSO Co-Directors to assist me in accomplishing this mission. Brothers Jim Jones and Michael Guinn have have accepted this responsibility and will report directly to me on all CSO issues. These are two dedicated members who have a true intent in seeing the SPFPA vision for Court Security Officers become a reality. They will have my full attention and assistance as they assume their positions and start working on your behalf.
I look forward to our next conference and to working for you and your families.
Brothers and Sisters, the time is now to bring all CSO's together. With your help, we are destined to succeed, and as International President,
I promise... I won't let you down!
Fraternally,
David L. Hickey

Quotable Quotes
" I came away with an awful lot of information about other programs and union affiliates with the CSO Program, and a vivid history of the program itself with the USMS. I was interested about learning more about SPFPA's history. SPFPA deserves much credit for a job well done.

Quotable Quotes
" I've been to many conferences, but this was the best conference
I ever attended! Personally I thought it was very informative and well-run. The speakers were excellent, Mr Hickey and Mr. Johannssen ( FOBSCO) were really great and focused on the issues."

Legal review and advice on CSO medical lawsuits
SPFPA General Counsel, Gordon A. Gregory, reviewed the CSO medical lawsuits that have been filed to date. Attendees were given a binder with each case that was discussed, followed by a question and answer session.
CSO's were then given the opportunity to speak with Gordon personally, and gain legal advice on issues facing their district and members. A true benefit of SPFPA membership is the legal expertise provided free of charge to our locals. Gordon's law firm is recognized as one of the top labor firms in the country.
More than 65 court security officers and labor leaders from across the country joined together to stand united concerning issues facing the court security industry. The overwhelming turnout included representation from seven labor union:
International Union, Security Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA)
Federation of Police, Security and Correction Officers ( FOPSCO )
(Who have since merged with SPFPA)
California Security Officers Union- Central District California (CSOU-CDC)
International Guard Union of America (IGUA)
United Government Security Officers of America (UGSOA)
Minnesota Court Security Officers Association (MCSOA)
Additionally, also welcomed were several court security officers, currently unrepresented, who attended and wanted to become involved and show their support
